Left home at 9 minutes passed[sic] 8 by my watch. Papa drove over to Huston's and then I drove the next (or 1st of trip)25 miles.
Fowlers had their engine become overheated so we got up with them. They removed their bed role[sic] bumper and car ran O.K. or better. Hustons led today-at 2nd we ate dust. We're going to take turns leading. We stopped at Kearney depot. Also at 1733 ranch where we took some snaps. Lura rode with us & Chas. With F.'s

from K.[Kearney] on for a few miles. We also stopped at Gothenburg at P.O. and had some ice cream cones-Uncle Hud's treat.
We had lunch a little west of Elm Creek. I drove 5 more miles before lunch making 30 driving the day. Mamma drove 19 miles. Paul[Huston] drove H's car nearly all the time. Every one of us was or is in back. In P.M. we stopped at the U.S. Cemetery [Ft. Mc Pherson National Cemetery] and all signed. Snaps were taken there too. We had supper at the Star Café across

from depot in North Platte. We talked with Blaufus's and will take dinner with them tomorrow. We ran 163 miles today. It is now 8:6 and we are in N.P.[North Platte] getting ready to leave soon. We've haven't changed our time yet but will soon. The worst of today's good roads was the dust, just a few ruts, it sprinkled a short time in P.M. We've all got flags on right hand side of car so we can easily recognize each other. Aunt Lura wrenched her neck and

Had a dandy dinner at Blaufus's and spent a fine time there. Too dark, sprinkly and windy to take snaps. Got into a shower a few miles out of Ogalla and had muddy roads to our camp. We had to put on chains. We camped acrossed[sic] from the farm papa used to own and in sight of the lights of Jewelesburg[sic.] We are only ½ mile from Colo. line. Rest packing up to leave immediately. Slept fine but one eye is swollen.

It's now 7:45 A.M. Took a few snaps this A.M.

Tues. Aug. 10, 1920

Traveled in Nebr. Colo. & Wyo. yesterday. Saw several people the folks knew. Had 1st bad luck of trip when F's [Fowlers] had a puncture and some brake trouble. Camped at night in Cheyenne Camping grounds-where we did in 1915. About 150 cars camping there. Had a rain during the night. Didn't get any mail last night so folks (Dr. & Judge) went into C [Cheyenne] to see if they got mail this A.M. Haven't

decided for sure [if] we'll move along yet towards Yellowstone. Took a few more snaps this A.M. and last night.

Saw 1st change from sand hills into limestone then to rock just after leaving N. Platte. Changes in flowers too. Saw some sod buildings, big ranches-plateaus-wonderful pine bluffs. A few bad roads. 2 large beautiful rainbows at night 8th. Got our 1st real glimpse of rockies near C [Cheyenne.]

Climbed a mt. yesterday P.M. Had trouble with vacuum pump but think it got to[sic] hot & melted points so effected[sic] gasoline. Had some asbestos put around cup in v. [vacuum] pump this a.m. Camped at Douglas camping grounds last night. Got a rain during early night. Didn't get up until after 5 this a.m. - very latest so far. No dew on ground rather cloudy but looks as if it would turn out O.K. Took no snaps. Wrote 2 cards.

Thurs. Aug. 12, 1920

Stopped for a camp at Hell's Half Acre about 7 mi. from Powder River. Very cold. Sat around a sagebrush fire. Camped entirely alone & used sagebrush for fuel. Coldest night yet. Made spuds for breakfast in the fire, had marshmallows toasted.

Fri. Aug. 13, 1920
Made 95 miles yesterday over hilly rough roads-could look down or up. Much scenery. Went down into Hell's Half Acre in A.M. and got a late supper at

Grand Café in Thermopolis. Got breakfast and dinner there also. In A.M. we went to Big Horn Springs for a bath. It was lots of fun. Everyone in entire group went in. Left for U.S.P. at 12.24 p.m.

Sat. Aug 14, 1920
Had much better roads yesterday then[sic] day before. We made a few miles passed[sic] Basin for camp at night. Most skeeters night or time we ever had. Slept fine 3.35 p.m. & only a few miles from Cody.

Page 13

Made to Cody from camp this A.M. Had lunch at Cody Café $.50 & up. We have had trouble several times this P.M. with engine. Are now in Shoshone Canyon.

Sun. Aug. 15, 1920
Camped at Middle Fork Camping Grounds on Shoshone Trail. Got inside park last night but 7 miles to a place to camp so came back here ¼ miles. Sandy place. Papa, Chas & I slept out under stars. Found some wild currents[sic,] gooseberries, strawberries & buffalo berries besides 23 other flowers
