Before marrying in 1902, Bayard Paine took a train, coach and wagon trip from Grand Island, Nebraska, to Battle Pass, Wyoming. He took copious notes of all things that interested him along the way, from tall tales told by other travelers to the construction of mines in south central Wyoming.
