We decided we really didn't want to go in there any way and that there was lots better places anyway we did not go. We retraced our steps and the roads were horribly hilly little bits of hills right close

together. We finally got on the road to Anselmo. We went through hills without seeing a house for about 5 miles. It began to drizzle and we hurried along. It stopped and we went on and got insight of Anselmo. We saw it would rain again so we put up our own tent just north of Weander Bars stopped and stayed there to dinner. In P.M. we left Anselmo and went up to 6 miles north of Merna and camped in a deep canyon. Were afraid it would rain but all of us except Fred slept out doors a

little higher up on the hill. In the morning it began raining about 2 o'clock. I waked up first and then woke the boys and we took our wet blankets and rolled up inside where the slough grass was a foot high and real damp. there
