Bayard H. Paine,
lawyer, Nebraska Supreme Court Judge, and tireless traveler, was a man
of many interests and a talented wit and story-teller. He graduated from
Grand Island High School in 1889. In 1894, Paine graduated from Northwestern
University with a bachelor's degree in science and started studying law
in 1898. He married Grace Bentley in 1902, and after taking law courses
at the University of Michigan, passed the Nebraska bar in 1904. From 1907
until 1949, he sat on the bench in various courts, most notably in the
Nebraska Supreme Court.
Bayard H. Paine traveled
whenever he got the opportunity. He kept meticulous records of costs as
well as impressions of places visited. As his family grew, he took them
along as well. Bayard Paine, his wife Grace Bentley Paine and their three
children, Alice (b. 1903), Charles (b.1905) and Bayard Jr. (b. 1906) were
great camera fans, and took numerous photographs, some of which have been
included here.
