Elegant Saddle Horses
for President Roosevelt's visit!

In 1903, a committee was established to select the saddle horses to be ridden during President Teddy Roosevelt's visit to Grand Island. As a part of the "100 Years After Teddy" Commemoration, the Stuhr Museum conducted a contest to determine the most elegant saddle horse in Hall County. The Museum took nominations as a part of the event and Hall County citizens will help select the top two saddle horses in re-enacting the selection in 1903 for the President's ride out to and back from the Taylor Ranch. In 1903 it was the Hansen horse of Dannebrog, the little dappled animal that attracted considerable attention wherever it was seen, and left President Roosevelt wishing for another ride.

Winners of the

2. Duane Donaldson and Margarita Mama

3. Lori & Matthew Graves and Cowboy

4. Glenda Ruhter and Windy
