Spring Cleaning in Railroad Town

GRAND ISLAND, STUHR MUSEUM - With the summer season beginning May 1 and Railroad Town opening to the public, Stuhr Museum staff and volunteered engaged in a little spring cleaning earlier this week to prepare for visitors.

Leslie Vollnogle, Stuhr Museum's Collections Curator, headed up the effort and had this to say about how it went:

"This year was a very successful spring cleaning. We were able to clean 20 buildings in Railroad Town on Thursday and we were able to finish cleaning 3 other Railroad Town buildings and the Farm Machinery building on Friday. We were able to do this in just two days because of the wonderful help of the 17 volunteers from Principal Financial Group, and volunteers Ann and Loren Miller and Kathy Noziska from the Custodial department. We were able to change all of the pads that we use underneath the trackers and automobiles in the Farm Machinery building. Railroad Town should be ready for the May 1st opening and the 2008 summer visitors."

The summer preparation also continued last week as Samson, Stuhr Museum's resident buffalo, returning to the grounds for the season.

Come see their work for yourself all this summer at Stuhr Museum. Summer exhibits including Railroad Town, the Antique Farm Machinery exhibit and more begin May 1 and run through September 30. For more information, call (308) 385-5316.
