Stuhr Museum members are going to get more than just a taste of history on Friday, December  5th during the annual Christmas Past & Present Member’s Night.

As part of a very special year for the museum, Christmas Past & Present will feature a recreated 1890’s Christmas Dinner in the Reynolds Center for one night only. The setting will include food, table settings, decorations and a chance for our members to sample some of the food that would have been prepared for Christmas dinner. The menu is still being finalized but will be posted here shortly. This will not be a meal, but a chance to try items that would have been staples during that time.

In addition, we have two other activities for members. At 7 p.m. there is a special tree lighting ceremony in Railroad Town, where candles are used to light a tree and carols will be sung. There will also be an additional site at the Road Ranche Log Cabin settlement only available during Members’ Night.

The Christmas Dinner display and tree lighting are only two of dozens of activities open during Christmas Past & Present Member’s Night, including:

•Cooking in the Cleary Farmhouse
•Tinsicle making in the Tinsmith Shop
•Paper ring ornaments for your tree at the Boarding House
•Christmas baking in Menck Cabin at the Road Ranche
•Create your own wooden train car in the Planing Mill for $5
•Special shopping at the Mercantile
•Father Christmas and Bazaar in the Town Hall
•Many, many other events museum wide

For the more modern portion of the festivities, be sure to visit the Fonner Rotunda which is the temporary site of the Prairie Treasures Gift Shop which will have great shopping for the season, including Nebraska made products, ornaments, historic books, specialty gifts and much more. Please note, with the Stuhr Building under construction, the annual “Fantasy of Trees” exhibit will be held across the street from the museum at College Park and will be available for viewing Dec. 1 – 23 but not during this event.

Memberships will be for sale the evening of the event. For more information, please call (308) 385-5316.
