Railroad Town is Now Open!

GRAND ISLAND, STUHR MUSEUM - Railroad Town is now open for the summer and the folks in Railroad Town are ready for visitors!
Railroad Town is Stuhr Museum's 1890s Living History town, which includes dozens of buildings, businesses, houses and people who act, dress and live as if they are in the era of our pioneer townbuilders. Each year, Railroad Town changes and shifts through the decade of the 1890s. This year, 1898, represents a sharp change from 1897 in several ways that are detailed here.
What visitors can expect is not a dry retelling of history, but rather a hands-on Living History Experience, where you can walk into a house, talk to the owner and do whatever it is they are doing as they go about their lives. Ever wonder how they did laundry in 1898? Look no further than the Milisen House. What sort of fashions did people wear? Visit the Millinery Shop for a complete lesson. The blacksmith's angle clangs, the Mercantile bell rings and every historical interpreter is ready to help you have a Living History experience you'll never forget. A list of activities can be found here.
Be sure to stop by this summer both for our special events, and for a taste of life in Railroad Town. For more information, call (308) 385-5316.
