The Stuhr Museum Research Department operates as a specialized, non-lending, closed-stack library and archive.  All materials listed below are to be used only in the library under staff supervision.

• Books relating to Hall County, Nebraska and the Great Plains
• Periodicals
• Newsletters from area museums and historical organizations
• Federal and State Records. U.S. Land records; surveyors' notes for Hall County; postal records; U.S. and Nebraska census records (Hall County 1860, 1870, 1880, 1885, 1900,1910)
• County records. Hall County naturalization and probate records
• Newspapers: Grand Island, 1870-1920; Cairo, 1907-36; Doniphan 1896-1925; Wood River 1895-1922, Nebraska Farmer 1859-1969. Also selected 19th century foreign language newspapers
• City Directories and telephone books. Grand Island and Hall County from 1887 to present.
• Official public records. Hall County and city of Grand Island
• Atlases and plat books. Hall County and other Nebraska counties.
• Maps. Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska, United States, and foreign countries.
• Photographs. 50,000 items including the 28,000 glass plate negatives of the Lumbard-Leschinsky Collection.
• Manuscripts. Personal and business records from Hall County.
• Posters and broadsides.
• Oral History tapes and transcripts.
• Vertical files.  Clippings, pamphlets, and documents pertaining to Hall County, Grand Island, and Nebraska.
• Genealogical records. Including over 2500 files on area families.

In giving visitors permission to copy, to quote from, or to publish manuscripts or photographic images form its collections, Stuhr Museum does not surrender its rights to print or otherwise reproduce these materials.  Researchers assume responsibility for use of the material, including infringement of copyright laws or other ownership rights in the material form the Museum's holdings.
