Eye on the Past:
Stuhr Museum Weekly Photograph
Featured in the Grand Island Daily Independent

Happy 4th of July!
Grand Island's Fire Department dressed in their best uniforms led this patriotic parade on 3rd Street. The two-story brick building at the right is the Wolbach Building (101-103 W. 3rd Street) built in 1881. Veit and Roeser Groceries (105 W. 3rd Street) occupy the 1884 brick addition to the Wolbach Dry Goods Store. In 1886, Viet and Roeser separated and began their own grocery. Roeser established the Bee Hive Grocery and relocated to 115 W. 3rd Street. The history of this one building helps date this photograph taken by Grand Island photographer Michael Murphy between 1884-1886.
