Broadwell House Movers
This photo is likely of George W. Broadwell and his crew moving a house in Grand Island. Broadwell is listed as a house mover in the Grand Island City Directories from 1896 to 1911. He is listed as a contractor and builder from 1912-13 until his death in 1920. On December 25, 1889, Broadwell married Minnie Balcom, daughter of James and Aliza Balcom. James Balcom was the brother of Henry or H. S. Balcom of Cairo, NE, the photographer of this photograph. Broadwell served on the Grand Island City Council for 13 years. Grand Island's Broadwell Avenue was named for him in 1911.
