Grand Island Cornet Band, ca. 1880
The Grand Island Cornet Band was organized in June 1876. Band members are identified as (back row, standing, from left) F.T. Nusz, H.L. McMeans, A.M. Michelson, Prof. H.A. Bartling, C.G. Hurford, C.A. Hake; (front row, from right) Fred Bacon, S.B. Reynard, L.J. West, J.K. Reynard, H.O. Brown, and C.A. Wiebe. The identification written on the photograph's frame agrees with a list of band members carried in the December 23, 1880 special edition of the Grand Island Times. Bartling is listed as the band's leader, Brown as secretary, and Nusz, the bass drum and cymbals player at far left as treasurer. S.B. Reynard was the father of noted Grand Island artist Grant Reynard.
