Exciting News from
The Research Department
.
Here at the Stuhr Museum Research Department, we work hard to preserve and maintain the history of Hall County.  Much of our efforts, however, happen behind the doors of our archives. But, something new and exciting is always happening in our department.  Every week we get many interesting research requests from all over the country.  From genealogy information to photograph requests, there is never a dull moment.  We are continually gathering information for our research files and making new friends.

Recently, much of our time has been dedicated to cataloging our antique book collection.  We spent several weeks cleaning, organizing, and inventorying over 7,000 books.  Now, we have nearly completed entering each book into our new collection software program, PastPerfect.  We have also entered and scanned nearly 3,000 photographs into PastPerfect.  Researching and tracking our collection has never been so easy or efficient.

Bicycle CorpThe Research Department is buzzing about the recent use of photographs from our collection in several television programs. The Montana PBS documentary The Bicycle Corps: America's Black Army on Wheels (see image at right) was aired for the first time September 4th on most PBS stations or purchase the video on ShopPBS.org. Check your local listing for times and keep an eye out for our Grand Island photographs. For more information, see our Bicycle Corps web site on this documentary.

Henry Fonda with Mother, 1905
This is not the first time for some of our photographs appeared on television.  Two of images from our Henry Fonda collection appeared in his A & E Biography (see image at left: Henry Fonda with his Mother in 1905, outside their Grand Island home).  In February 2000, three of our photographs were used in the Home and Garden Network's (HGTV) program Restore America on the Hamilton-Donald House now the Nonna's Palazzo Restaurant in Grand Island, NE.

L. Donald House, Grand Island, NENow, we have received photograph requests from the HGTV's If These Walls Could Talk (see image at right: The Lawrence Donald House, Grand Island) and E! Entertainment Television's True Hollywood Stories for the possible use of some of our images in future programs.  We will post more information about these programs here on our web site as we receive it.

So, visit us again soon.
