Nebraska Byways Passport Program

GRAND ISLAND, STUHR MUSEUM - Nebraska travelers who get off the beaten path this summer will have a chance to take home more than memories after their summer vacation with the Nebraska Byways Passport Program, which includes Stuhr Museum.

The Nebraska's Byways Passport Program, created by the Department of Economic Development's Travel and Tourism Division, encourages travelers to explore one or more of the state's nine scenic byways and win a prize.

Twenty-seven attractions are listed on the souvenir passport, and these locations across the state also are where travelers can pick up the passport and start playing. Tourists who travel to the participating locations receive a stamp at each stop. At the end of the trip, visitors send in a tear-out sheet from the passport. If the passport has nine stamps, travelers get a Nebraska byways t-shirt; 18 stamps, a digital photo frame; and 27 stamps, a flip video camera.

Stuhr Museum, for example, is part of the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway which runs along Nebraska Highway 2 and includes the Nebraska National Forest in Halsey and the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center in Alliance.

All players will be entered in a grand prize drawing for a laptop computer valued at $1,000, to be drawn in October, 2010. Participants will get one entry into the grand prize drawing for every nine stamps on the passport.

Visitors can start planning their Nebraska vacation at VisitNebraska.gov where the official Nebraska Travel Guide is available for free download or order, or click here. For more information on the museum's involvement, contact us at (308) 385-5316.
