New Book By Stuhr Museum Now Available!

GRAND ISLAND, STUHR MUSEUM - Stuhr Museum is proud to announce the release of “ Grand Island and Hall County,” a book which explores the pictorial history of the area with over 200 photographs from the late 1860s through the early 1930s.

The book was coordinated by Stuhr Museum’s Research Curator Karen Keehr. “Grand Island and Hall County,” published by Arcadia Publishing, takes an honest and often surprising look at Hall County’s history by showing both special events and everyday life on the plains. Keehr and research assistant Josh Casey chose carefully from Stuhr’s collection of over 60,000 historic photographs to find photographs which were telling, informative, and occasionally fun.

“We were very conscious to choose photos that showed people and action,” Keehr said. “We wanted this book to fulfill Stuhr’s mission to preserve and portray the era of pioneer town builders who created the first communities in Nebraska, but we also wanted it to be a project to show what people looked like, what they did and how they lived.”

By touching on topics such as communities, businesses, schools, homes, churches, transportation, entertainment and “the lighter side,” in its 127 pages, Keehr said “ Grand Island and Hall County” accomplishes that goal.

"Grand Island and Hall County," is available at the Stuhr Museum Prairie Treasures Gift Shop and by contacting Martha Paulsen at Stuhr Museum at (308) 385-5316 ext. 201. The book is also available at:
