Hall County Appreciation Day

GRAND ISLAND, STUHR MUSEUM - During this special “thank you” to Hall County’s continued support for more than 40 years, anyone and everyone is welcomed to visit the museum free of charge on Saturday, May 14th.
Stuhr’s 1890’s Railroad Town is open for the summer, the Pawnee Earth Lodge and tipi will be open, viewings of the Antique Farm Machinery Building will be available and the new summer exhibit “Always There: First Responders of the 1890's” will be on display in the Stuhr Building. There are more than 200 acres of museum to explore, and it’s all FREE to the public.
Every year, Stuhr Museum chooses a theme for the summer, and this year’s theme is First Responders who have served the community and kept the public safe since the age of the pioneer townbuilders. The summer exhibit will delve into that issue in-depth, with hands-on portions of the exhibit, photographs, artifacts and much more.
The theme extends to Railroad Town, Stuhr’s 1890’s Living History town, where the year is 1890 and costumed interpreters are prepared to show visitors the details of everyday life. During the day, you can read the “Platte Valley Independent,” Railroad Town’s official newspaper, shop in the Mercantile, purchase food at the Silver Dollar Café, watch the blacksmith and tinsmith at work, visitor historic homes like the Lesher, Fonda and Milisen Houses, view our Veterinary exhibits in the Livery Stable, poke your head into Peter’s School, visit the Hardware Store and much more.
Railroad Town opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. with the Antique Farm Machinery building open from 10-11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m. The Stuhr Building and “Always There: First Responders of the 1890's ” is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
