Controlled Burn At The Stuhr Building

GRAND ISLAND, STUHR MUSEUM - On Tuesday, March 15, those traveling along Highway 281 or Highway 34 might have noticed a lot of smoke pouring from Stuhr Museum. Luckily, it was all part of a planned burn coordinated through the city of Grand Island and Stuhr Museum.

A controlled burn took place along the edges of the moat in the Stuhr Building and the wetlands west of the Reynolds Center. The reasoning behind the burn was to remove unwanted foliage and make it less likely that a hotter, more destructive fire could develop during the hotter months of the year.

The dark rings around the moat will remain for several weeks.
