Assistant Director of Education (FT)

Responsible for the implementation of Stuhr Museum’s mission related grades 9 – 12 and Adult educational programming in support of students, teachers, adult learners, families, school systems and communities in accordance with statewide standards for education. Executes, evaluates, and supervises the museum’s 9th-12th and Adult educational programs using a variety of methods and techniques. Coordinates the Stuhr Museum Field Trip program. Responsible for scheduling, registration, reconciliation, reports, data collection and recording and tracking of schools and students in the Stuhr Museum Field Trips program. Also responsible for gathering and distributing supplies for both Field Trips, Summer Adventures and Winter & Fall Adventure Weekend programs in a timely and cost-effective manner. Coordinates the North Pole Express programming in November. Responsible for the planning, implementation, supply collection, volunteer assigning, and all other preparations needed to run a successful program. EOE.


Custodian (FT)

Stuhr Museum seeks a qualified person to provide housekeeping/cleaning functions for the Museum’s modern and historic structures, including the Stuhr Building, Fonner Rotunda, Reynolds Building, Gate House, the rural church and school, and assigned sites at the road ranch, the 1890s Railroad Town, the 1890s farmstead and others. Uses cleaning equipment and approved procedures in performing all functions. Must be able to work flexible hours when needed, lift up to 50 pounds and work in weather extremes. Must hold a current driver’s license. This position is full-time with benefits. EOE.


Food Service (PT)

Stuhr Museum is seeking qualified persons to provide food service to visitors at the Silver Dollar during the summer and Stuhr Bistro in the fall through spring. Food service workers will take orders and payments, prepare hot and cold food, and serve customers in a fast, efficient, and friendly manner. Must be able to work flexible hours when needed and lift up to 50 lbs. EOE.


Visitor Experience Associate (PT)

Part-time, year-round position. Welcomes and assists visitors with sales in Museum Shop and the Gate House. Greets guests, processes ticket sales, provides directions to on and off-site locations and answers visitors’ questions. Ability to use cash register, computer skills, and other business technology equipment. Excellent customer service skills. Part-time, evening and weekend work required, as needed. EOE.


Living Historian (PT)

Stuhr Museum is seeking part-time, seasonal living historians. This position interprets all aspects of life in central Nebraska and the Great Plains during the 1840s through the 1920s for visitors within various sites within the museum. Living historians will wear period-appropriate clothing. EOE.


Mercantile Clerk (PT)

Stuhr Museum is seeking part-time, seasonal clerks to work in the historic General Mercantile Emporium. Clerks will greet and serve visitors to the Mercantile while interpreting the Mercantile site. Clerks will also assist with other tasks, such as stocking merchandise and cleaning the site daily. EOE.


Gardener (Seasonal)

Stuhr Museum is seeking a qualified seasonal employee to design and maintain landscaped areas of Stuhr Museum. Maintains gardens, planters, etc., by planting, watering, trimming, pruning, and weeding.  Requires 1-2 years of work experience and knowledge of plants suitable for Nebraska landscaping. Must be able to work flexible hours when needed. EOE.


Heritage Gardener (Seasonal)

Stuhr Museum is seeking a qualified seasonal employee to design and maintain the heritage flowerbeds, shrubs, and gardens in Railroad Town with specialized heritage plans, including trees, hedges, shrubs, roses, climbers, fruits, vegetables, herbaceous plants, and annuals. Requires 1-2 years of work experience and knowledge of heritage plants pertaining to Nebraska in the 1890’s. Must be able to work flexible hours when needed. EOE.


Maintenance Technician (FT)

Stuhr Museum seeks a qualified person for restoration, repairs, and general maintenance of buildings and equipment. Must be able to work flexible hours when needed. Duties will include carpentry, snow removal, some ability with electrical maintenance, plumbing, and small engine repair. Must hold a current driver’s license, be able to operate light construction equipment, lift 75 to 100 pounds and work in weather extremes. Full-time with benefits. EOE.


Museum Educator (PT)

Stuhr Museum is now taking applications for part-time Museum Educators for Stuhr Museum Field Trips. A passion and proficiency for working with school-aged children and a desire to teach historical content from the 1800s is required. Also, must be willing to learn period-appropriate activities and dress in period-appropriate clothing. Requires a high school diploma. A teaching degree or experience is preferred. Background checks will be done on prospective candidates. EOE.


Dressmaker/Seamstress (PT)

Stuhr Museum is seeking a part-time seamstress to sew historical clothing. Requires previous sewing and dressmaking experience. Must be willing to learn period sewing techniques. Patterns available to use, the ability to adjust or fit patterns is preferred. This position works in coordination with the Director of Interpretive Resources. The position involves sewing garments such as dresses, skirts, shirtwaists and petticoats, and eventually men’s clothing. EOE.
