Philosophy
Stuhr Museum
is an educational institution that teaches visitors about the life
of past generations and stimulates them to consider how the past
affects the present and the future. It is our belief that Stuhr
Museum has something to offer people of all ages and all cultural
and educational backgrounds. Exhibits, workshops, classes, and living
history programs enable individuals to actively participate in learning
about their own heritage and the heritage of our nation. The H.A.T.S. Program
In 1982, Stuhr Museum introduced the Heritage Activities For Today's Students (H.A.T.S.) program. H.A.T.S. classes are not field trips. They are an extension of the classroom, with integrated curriculum-based instructional units for kindergarten through sixth grade students and taught by costumed instructors. Each grade level builds on the previous year's subject matter with schools often returning to the museum for six or more years of study. The program currently serves over 18,000 students from Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, and beyond, each year. |
