2004 Exhibit: Child's
Play ~ History for and About KIDS!
An
Interactive, Hands-On Exhibit that was displayed May 1-November 21, 2004
GRAND ISLAND,
STUHR MUSEUM - This seven-month-long
interactive exhibit, "Child's Play: History for and about
Kids!" opened May 1. Eek and Meek, a friendly informative
pair of cartoon mice, guide visitors through this exciting hands-on
experience for young and old alike. Visitors have a chance to
step into the shoes of their grandparents when they were children
and experience life through their eyes.
Highlights
of the exhibit include experiencing a rural school house, the
magic of Grandma's attic and her old clothes, playing in an old
fashioned bedroom and kitchen, reading by candlelight, fishing
at the fishing hole, playing old fashioned carnival games, writing
a letter to Eek and Meek, learning dance steps to music, working
at Grandpa's workbench, building a toy boat or playing with the
furniture in the doll house or with paper dolls.
Lacy Hall
will display the life of children in Hall County from infancy
to marriage or a job in adulthood. Clothing, toys, books, chores,
books, and chemistry equipment will all be on display. There will
be an extensive display of jobs for the young adults including
school teaching, nursing, and farming. The final display is of
the typical wedding, including both a wedding dress and suit.
