May
May 1 Summer Opening of Outdoor Exhibits! 1890s Railroad Town opens daily at 10 am (opens at noon on Sundays), Antique Auto & Farm Machinery Building open 10-11 am and 2-3 pm, (2-3 pm only on Sundays), Pawnee Earth Lodge open weekends; 1860s Log Cabin Road Ranche Settlement, and Rural Church & Schoolhouse also open. Living History Experience and daily hands-on activities resume.

May 17 Visitor and Hall County Appreciation Day! 9 am-5 pm. FREE Admission! Join us for events in Railroad Town, games, new exhibits and living history events during this annual "thank you" to our visitors and supporters.

May 26 1890s Memorial Day - 10 am-5 pm. Celebrate and honor those who served before us. Procession to cemetery at 11:30 am, Silver Cornet Band Concert & Memorial Programme, 2 pm at the Railroad Town Bandstand followed by games and hands-on activities for young and old.

May 26 - Sept. 14 EXHIBIT: "Vittles: Flavors Across the Plains" Stuhr's summer exhibit focuses on food along the plains, how it was prepared, what special tastes the Prairie Pioneers developed and how they fed those tastes. The exhibit will include both items on food preparation and how it was served!

June
June 7 & 8 - Sassy Classic Vintage Baseball Tournament 9-5 each day. Experience baseball as it was at the turn of the century, as the popular "Sassy Classic" returns! Enjoy the styles, lingo and customs of what would evolve into our national pass time. Games will be held throughout the day.

July
July 4 An 1897 Independence Day Celebration! 10 am-6pm. 4th of July fun the old-fashioned way for the whole family! 2 pm Railroad Town Parade, followed by the Silver Cornet band concert, patriotic program, pie eating contests, games on the green, lots of all-American family fun! Join us for this patriotic and stirring holiday tradition.

July 17 Metale 5 Concert 7 p.m. The Meadowlark Music Festival presents Metale 5, a brass quintet who specialize in music from Mexico, Germany and the pop cultural and classical genres. More information to follow. Tickets are $10.

July 25 It’s a Cowboy’s Life: An Evening around the Campfire! 6-9 pm. Meet ‘em at the Farm for an evening around the campfire with s’mores, live cowboy music, cooking demonstrations, cowboy tales, branding, ropin’ and rustlin’, watermelon seed spittin’, wagon rides, quilting, games for the chillin’ and lots of fresh air and country fun.

August
August 9 & 10 Fair Time in Railroad Town Saturday 10-5, Sunday 12-5. The folks in Railroad Town bring their best summer produce and domestic arts for display. Midway games, gardening demonstrations, fair judging, fortune telling and a 2 p.m. band concert creates an authentic old-time fair experience.

August 17 Sunday Afternoon with Tom & Huck! 12-5. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the Hornady Family Arbor, then spend a flatwater afternoon fishing in the pond, building and racing boats, branding, and playing games. Free boat to first 200 kids ages 12 and under; boat race, 2 pm.

August 30 and 31 Back to School in Railroad Town Saturday 10-5, Sunday 12-5. It's all about the readin', writin' and 'rithmetic as students test their skills at Peters School! Kids of all ages are encourages to come register for day classes and hands-on activities!

September 22 - November 23 Grand Island Art and Sketch Club Art Exhibition - Students from dozens of local schools show off their best and most creative artwork during this long-standing exhibit.

September 27 - Harvest Festival 10-9. Enjoy harvest demonstrations, specialty food, games, work your way through our grass maze, see cooking demonstrations and pick your very own pumpkin from our pumpkin patch. This new event is a great way to usher in the fall!

September 30 Last day open for all Outdoor Displays & Living History Experience until May 1, 2008.
Museum hours: 9 am-5 pm Monday-Saturday; 12-5 pm on Sundays.

October 2 CLASS: Discover Family History - 6-8 p.m. in the Reynolds Building. Learn how to more effectively research geneology using Stuhr's research library. Pre-registration Required. Please call (308) 385-5316 for more information.

October 17& 18 All Hallow's Evenings 6-9 pm. An 1890s Halloween celebration complete with the spooks and old bats of Railroad Town! Spooky tales told, games and treats on the Treat Trail, the Haunted Field AND the Haunted Mill, hayrack rides, costumes welcome, kids of all ages sure to be delightfully spooked!

November 1-2 Nebraska Food Festival! Saturday 9-5, Sunday 12-5. Sample and learn about and buy delightful goodies and foods produced in Nebraska. Cooking demonstrations, Food ways exhibit from the museum's own collection and plenty of food prizes given away throughout this culinary event. Come hungry!

December 1 - January 4 (2009) Fantasy of Trees Display Experience the wonder of the Christmas Tree through this beautiful display of several dozen themed Christmas trees encircling both levels of the Stuhr Building . All trees are competitively decorated by local civic organizations, charities and businesses. Bring your oohs and ahhs!

December 5 MEMBERS ONLY EVENT ~ Christmas: Past & Present Members Only Night!
6-9 pm. Exclusive Christmas Event for Stuhr Museum Members Only! Must be a Stuhr Museum Member to attend and participate. Christmas at Stuhr Museum is even more special when you are a Member. Enjoy this old-fashioned celebration of the holidays as they were over 100 years ago.

December 6, 12, 13, 14 Christmas Past & Present! 6-9 pm except 14th 2-5 pm. Take a magical walk through time on a lantern-lit visit to Railroad Town and the rural communities. Meet Father Christmas, enjoy holiday cooking, hear a seasonal melody, and experience all of the sights, smells and sounds…and the spirit of Christmas past and present. A glorious and magical family holiday tradition!

Hands-on activities vary daily during the summer season in Railroad Town. Be sure to ask about special programs and workshops to enhance your trip through pioneer history at Stuhr Museum.

Hours: Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm; Sundays, 12 to 5 pm. Stuhr Museum is open 365 days a year excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. Railroad Town and outdoor exhibits are open May 1 through September 30.
