Stuhr Museum is Part of the
Blue Star Initiative

GRAND ISLAND, STUHR MUSEUM – Stuhr Museum is proud to announce our participation in the Blue Star Museums program, which offers free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families now through Labor Day.

By showing a valid military ID or associated documentation, active duty military and their families are welcomed to enjoy Stuhr Museum, including our 1890’s Railroad Town, Stuhr Building and Native American exhibits, free of charge today through September 6, 2010. Stuhr joins over 700 museums nation-wide who are participating in the Blue Star program. We are one of four Blue Star museums in Nebraska, and join the International Quilt Studies Museum, the Nebraska State Historical Society Museum and Morrill Hall, all located in Lincoln.

“The decision to become a Blue Star Museum was an easy one for us to make,” Joe Black, Executive Director of Stuhr Museum, said. “Military history is a vital part of several events we schedule during the summer, and the Blue Star program seemed like a simple way to say ‘thank you’ to those currently serving in our Armed Forces.”

Active duty military and their families are welcomed to enjoy Stuhr Museum whenever they like this summer, and take part in special events including our “1890’s Independence Day Celebration” on July 4, “Wild Horses and Working Wagons,” on July 10th, “Cowboy Night,” July 23 and “Sunday Afternoon With Tom and Huck” fishing event on August 22nd. The promotion ends for 2010 on Labor Day, September 6.

The Blue Star Museums program runs through Labor Day, September 6. The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention Common Access card, a DD Form 1173, or a DD Form 1173-1, which includes active duty military and five immediate family members, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserve.

Blue Star Museums is a partnership among Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts and participating museums across the country.
