GRAND ISLAND, STUHR MUSEUM - Blacksmithing is an age-old trade, a modern skill and a unique form of artistic expression, all of which will be discussed during a one-of-a-kind class at Stuhr Museum.
"Blacksmith I" is a two-day class, which will be held for both members and
non-members of the museum. Blacksmithing I for those with no metal work experience, takes place March 5 & 6. During this class, participants will create items using a coal forge as well as becoming skilled at the tempering process and basic hammer techniques.
This class is a unique opportunity to find out how metal working was done over one hundred years ago, and how blacksmithing is still relevant today.
Blacksmithing II takes place March 26 & 27 and is designed for those who have completed the Blacksmith 1 class. Sessions run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. These experiences are limited to 6 participants and pre-registration is required. The cost for each session is $120 for members and $125 for non-members.
